PANJIM: The performance of students, who appeared for the annual Goa Common Entrance Test (GCET) for admission to professional colleges, has dropped compared to last year with the highest marks being scored by a student in Biology.
The highest scores in the respective subjects were 71 out of 75 marks in Biology, followed by 69 in Chemistry and Mathematics and 59 marks in Physics. The lowest marks scored by students were 6 marks out of 75 in Physics and Mathematics each.
The results for Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology were announced on Saturday, exactly two days after the test was carried out at 11 centres across the State on May 6-7. A total of 3,403 students had registered for the test.
The National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) for admissions to medical college was not conducted this year, since biology was included in GCET itself.
Addressing a press briefing to announce the results, Education Secretary Mathew Samuel said, “The test results have been evaluated and processed within two working days using electronic objective response sheet technology,” he said in the presence of Director of Technical Education Vivek Kamat, Principal of Goa College of Engineering V N Shet, Chairman of Admissions Committee Dr R V Gaitonde and IIT Mumbai’s Physics Professor S S Major, who was the GCET coordinator.
The total marks, however, slipped below GCET 2013 results in three papers as 74 was the top score for Mathematics, 73 in Chemistry and 71 marks in Physics. Biology was not among the papers since Goa had accepted NEET for admissions to medical and dental colleges, only to return to GCET as the single exam for entry to all professional degree courses this year.
The results were soon uploaded on DTE website www.dtegoa.gov.in. With GBSHSE slated to announce HSSC results on Sunday evening, Kamat advised that GCET candidates fill up ‘Form-B’ admission form that will be accepted at DTE office in Porvorim and Ravindra Bhavan at Margao from May 15 to May 24.
