National Vector Borne Diseases Control Programme, Directorate of Health Services is very much concerned of the rising dengue case in Goa. Dr Anant Palekar, Dy Director, NVBDCP, said all the peripheral health facilities are well equipped to initiate the control and preventive measures to restrict dengue virus transmission. “All the PHC/CHC/UHC are closely monitoring the vector breeding sites daily and taking immediate measures for the elimination of potential breeding sites. Anti-larval measures such as spraying of chemicals and anti-adult measures such as fogging to knock down the infected adult mosquitoes are being regularly carried out in areas reporting suspected dengue cases on day to day basis. School complexes across Goa are being regularly fumigated, as precautionary measures for prevention of any dengue upsurge,” he said. Local bodies, panchayats and municipalities are also being informed about the potential breeding sites and are requested to initiate early interventions wherever necessary. “Dengue is a notifiable disease, the nearest health facilities need to be informed about any suspected dengue case so that early control and preventive measures are initiated,” he said, while adding that in case of any febrile illness, it is always suggested to follow medical advice and prevent any self-medication. “Take personal protective measures to prevent mosquito contact by use of mosquito repellants, creams, coils etc. People are advised to follow safe water storage practices and to regularly clean any incidental water collection. Goa has reported 141 confirmed case of dengue and three suspected dengue deaths under investigation till August 2019,” he added.
