MAPUSA: In the major decision, the Mapusa Municipal Council has resolved to write to the North Goa Planning and Development Authority (NGPDA) to revoke permission granted to Cunchelim Comunidade.
The final council meeting was led by Chairperson Ryan Braganza and also attended by Chief Officer Kabir Shrigaonkar and Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza.
Several major issues were taken up for discussion. It was discussed that Cunchelim Comunidade got the approvals for the plots development either illegally or by misguiding the authorities.
The council also claimed that permission granted to Cunchelim Comunidade is revoked on technical grounds and also stated that the land on which the project is coming up is a recreational zone and not a settlement area. In another decision, the council decided to fully open the Mapusa market while abiding to the COVID guidelines.
“Initially due to the COVID-19 pandemic only 50 per cent of the market was opened but now the market will be fully opened similar to pre-COVID days,” said Braganza, the MMC chairperson.
The council further gave a deadline to the engineers working on sewerage network in Mapusa to complete the project by May 2021. MLA Joshua said, “The work of sewage project in Mapusa was delayed due to non-payment of funds by the Central government. The work had started in 2014 and for six years the project is on a standstill. By May 2021, the project is likely to be operational. Before going with the phase two, the phase one has to be 100 per cent functional.”
The council also resolved to keep on hold the disconnection notices issued to houses which are discharging sewage in drains. Braganza informed, “The houses which have been served notices are not illegal but these are years old houses constructed in a small area of 30 to 40 sq mts due to which they do not have place for soak pits. The notices issued to them will be kept on hold till the sewerage network does not get operational,” the chairperson added.
The MLA also informed that under Down Town Scheme, land for Ravindra Bhavan is already identified and willingness for the same is already given by the concerned stakeholders.
