Pernem cabbies give ultimatum to govt till May 6 for notifying taxi stand at MIA

PERNEM: Unfazed by the imposition of Section 144 around Mopa airport, taxi operators here continued with their agitation for the fourth day yesterday.

The Greenfield Mopa Taxi Association and Mopa Airport Local Taxi Operator’s Association submitted a charter of demands to the Transport Minister, Director of Transport, Director of Civil Aviation and Pernem MLA with regards to taxi counter at the Manohar International Airport (MIA)

The association has issued an ultimatum till May 6 to fulfil their demands failing which they threatened to intensify their stir.

The association sought in writing the date by which the yellow and black taxi stand would be notified at the airport to accommodate 75-100 taxis as they claimed that their pleas have fallen on deaf ears till date.

The cabbies also asked the government to consider all the 1342 applications submitted by the locals to the office of Asst Director of Transport, Member Secretary RTA, Pernem and expressed their willingness to pay minimum rent towards the counter as per government rate.

The taximen said that while issuing permits, priority be given to land losers from the affected panchayat areas from Pernem taluka with special reservation for widows having minor children from such families.

“We request the concerned authorities to consider our request by May 6, failing which the Association will intensify the agitation,” said Uday Mahale, President of Greenfield Mopa Taxi Association.
