Pernem Excise officials seize liquor worth Rs 22 lakh at Patradevi

PERNEM: In a major bust, Pernem Excise officials intercepted a lorry carrying illegal liquor worth Rs 22 lakh at the Patradevi border checkpoint on Friday evening. The vehicle, with registration number MH 11 BL 9884, was stopped during a routine border checking while moving towards Mumbai.

Initially, the driver of the vehicle produced documents claiming to transport cement bricks to Mumbai. 

However, upon thorough questioning, the driver got scared and admitted to having liquor boxes in the truck.

Upon further inspection, the team found liquor boxes of different brands worth around Rs 22 lakh hidden behind the bricks. The seizure was made as part of the strict checking of vehicles at borders due to the Karnataka elections. An excise officer confirmed that the liquor was seized, and the driver was taken into custody.
