PERNEM: Pernem Excise team on Saturday seized 249 boxes containing liquor worth Rs 7.21 lakh.
According to sources, at around 3.30 am, the excise team stopped the vehicle while trying to cross the Patradevi check post. After a check, it was found that vehicle was transporting liquor. The boxes were kept hidden behind refrigerator, washing machine, motorcycle and other household items. The vehicle was proceeding from Mapusa to Bhiwandi. Sources informed that truck driver one Ranjit Singh fled but the excise team managed to take the cleaner one Tanshur Kumar into custody. Both driver and cleaner are natives of Rajhasthan.
Excise Inspector Amol Harwalkar is further investigating the case.
