PANJIM: As many as 140
liquor outlets including bars & restaurants at Pernem are found to be
located within 500 mtrs of national and State highways as the Pernem taluka
team becomes the first to complete its survey.
The remaining 10 teams have
assured the government-formed Core Committee to submit their respective reports
by February 28. “Pernem team has completed the inspection and has found that
around 140 structures fall within 500 mtrs of national and State highways. The
team members are preparing a final report. The other taluka-level teams will
submit their reports by February 28,” Excise Commissioner and head of the Core
Committee Menino D’Souza said.
The committee met on
Thursday as a part of every fortnightly meeting to prepare itself to implement
the Supreme Court order banning liquor sale on highways. Meanwhile, the
Directorate of Municipal Administration and the Directorate of Panchayats has
informed has by and large all the hoarding, signages and advertisements
indicating location of the liquor selling/serving structures are removed. The
committee is set to meet on March 8.
