PERNEM: With Pernem Municipal Council failing to do the pre-monsoon repair work, the fish market has been witnessing water logging and leakage from the roof.
Every year, the vendors selling fish here, complain of water logging and leakage of rain water from the roof. However, the Pernem Municipality have turned a blind eye towards this issue with an excuse that new market complex project file is under process.
More than 15 fish vendors use this market premise. The structure is more than 40 years old and in pathetic condition thereby putting the life of vendors at risk. Due to leakage of water, the roof has become unstable, cement from the poles is peeling off along with accumulation of water during rain continues.
“The municipality very well know the condition of the fish market but still nobody is taking any action. The officials are giving excuses of unavailability of funds. They are waiting for some casualty to happen till then they will not do anything. For the last 10 years we are here and nothing is done, not even a repair work,” a vendor complained.
“Municipality is not doing any repair work. Water gets accumulated during heavy rain and the roof starts leaking. If repair work is not carried out then we will be forced to sit outside on road cause everything is about to break. The walls are in bad condition. Roof is about to collapse,” another fish vendor Bhagirathi said.
However, Deputy Chairperson Siddesh Pednekar informed that pre-monsoon work has already been carried out and hence there will be no incidents of water logging in the market.
