Pernem HIT AND RUN CASE converted to Murder case; two arrested

A hit-and-run case was reported at Dhargal wherein a rickshaw allegedly collided with a taxi on Monday evening claiming the life of the driver. Local taxi drivers quickly responded to this situation by taking the victim to the hospital.

On Monday morning, the three accused allegedly rammed their vehicle into the taxi and fled from the spot. A few taxi drivers followed these accused and nabbed them. They handed the accused along with their vehicle to Pernem police.

The local taxi drivers expressed frustration towards the medical personnel and police department. They claimed that the doctors were not ready to begin the treatment till the police showed up. Despite calling the police multiple times, the police arrived very late and hence the victim was taken to the GMC late. The failure to address this serious issue has infuriated the drivers.

As per reports, the said incident was actually a murder plotted by the three accused who had a verbal altercation with the young taxi driver. During the accident scene, the accused made sure that the driver was dead and then fled from the scene.

Initially, the Pernem police registered this case as an accident under section 279, 3 and not ‘murder’. While looking for another angle into this case, the police found out that the accused deliberately hit and chased the driver who then later crushed him under their vehicle. Currently, the police are taking relevant actions against the perpetrators. Out of the three, two are arrested. The accused are identified as Rohit Singh driver (29) and Abhishek Singh (20) both hailing from Uttar Pradesh. These two accused were staying in Goa for a year and were working near Mopa Airport.
