PANJIM: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee spokesperson Jitendra Deshprabhu, who hails from Pernem taluka, alleged that illegal activities such as beach parties and ‘dhirios’ (bull fights) are being held under the watchful eyes of the Pernem police, and probably this is known to Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.
He also slammed the government for its failure to curb the increasing number of thefts and robberies occurring over the past two months. “Police have shown little success in investigating the cases,” Deshprabhu said pointing that in the last one month over 100 cases have been reported, which include 47 theft cases, 52 small thefts, five major robberies and two dacoities.
He also alleged that Panjim constituency was completely neglected by Manohar Parrikar, and claimed that BJP’s Calangute MLA Michael Lobo would be the best candidate for the post of chief minister, considering the development undertaken by him in his constituency.
“Lobo has far better leadership qualities than Parrikar. You can see the manner in which development has been undertaken in Calangute,” Deshprabhu said. “I would consider Lobo as a deserving candidate for the CM’s post,” he added.
Deshprabhu said Panjim constituency is completely messed up in the name of development. There is complete mismanagement of traffic, increasing gambling activities, thefts and many other issues haunting the capital city, which Parrikar, the then MLA, had failed to look into, he said.
The Congress leader also sounded sympathetic towards Lobo, who was recently attacked by former Arpora-Nagoa sarpanch, injuring his right hand.
