Pernem Municipal Council to elect new Chairperson on May 4

Pernem: The Pernem Municipal Council will be getting a new Chairperson on May 4, following the resignation of the outgoing Chairperson, Madhav Sinai Dessai. 

Siddhesh Pednekar will be the next in line for the position, and if he is elected, he would be the first Dalit to hold the post. Pednekar, who has been elected from his ward for the second time, is a popular choice among the councillors, who have reportedly come to a mutual understanding about his candidacy. The last date for nominations is May 3.

The Pernem Municipal Council has seen many leaders in the past, with Vasudeo Deshprabhu being the longest serving Chairperson, having completed eight years in the position. 

The list of past leaders includes Jitendra Deshprabhu, Parshuram Kotkar, Vishnu Dessai, Ujwala Tirodkar, Priti Bondre, Vishakha Gadekar, Pradip Deshprabhu, Isidore Fernandes, Sudhir Deshprabhu, Resha Mashelkar, Nutan Aroskar, Nilesh Pednekar, Smita Kudtarkar, Usha Nagvekar, Shraddha Mashelakr, Suvidha Teli, Shweta Kambli, and Madhav Sinai Dessai.
