Pernem Police Apprehend Suspect in Midnight Drug Raid

One individual was apprehended on charges related to narcotics possession, in an operation conducted by Pernem police in the late hours of June 2nd, 2024.

The suspect, identified as Akash S/o Rajesh Sancheti, aged 30 and a resident of Arambol Pernem, Goa, originally hailing from Jijamata Nagar, Pune city, Pune, was intercepted by the raiding team while allegedly carrying illicit substances. Acting on intelligence inputs, the police team, comprising PSI Tukaram Chodankar, Navneet Goltekar, PC Prajot Mayekar, and Shashank Shakhalkar, conducted the operation.

During the raid, Akash was found in possession of a bag containing 770 grams of Ganja and 03 orange tablets weighing 0.6 grams, suspected to be Ecstasy tablets. The estimated value of the seized narcotics is around ₹86,000. An FIR under sections 20(b)(ii)(A) and 22(a) of the NDPS Act was registered against him.

Following his arrest, Akash was presented before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Pernem, where he was granted four days of police custody. The investigation into the matter is ongoing under the supervision of PI Sachin Lokre, SDPO Pernem Jivba Dalvi, and SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
