PERNEM: Residents of Pernem along with Congress leaders have raised concerns over the safety of the notorious intersection at Pernem, after a local woman lost her life in a fatal road accident on Friday. The residents have appealed to the authorities for immediate action and resolve the longstanding issue. They have also warned of resorting to a sit-in agitation if their demands were not met.
“On Friday, a woman from Torxem lost her life in an accident. Today their entire household is mourning. Government authorities are responsible for this death. The junction has been done in a negligent manner. In 2018, there was a massive accident where the roads from the truck killed two persons. At the time of constructing the road, we had brought it to the notice of MVR that the junction is dangerous,” Adv Prasad Shahapurkar told media on Saturday.
“At that time we had even registered an FIR. The service road is touching the highway at a dangerous angle. People of Pernem have to sacrifice their lives due to this wrong alignment. We will have to agitate if the authorities do not take any action,” Shahapurkar cautioned.
“This has become a death trap and if more people do not want to lose their lives, all Pednekars have to come out and protest,” Shahpurkar said.
