Sources say Kumar will look into all the angles and find out the truth

PANJIM: Pernem Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajesh Kumar will conduct a departmental inquiry against four police personnel suspended for allegedly assaulting Mapusa-based lawyer Gajanan Sawant.

Adv Sawant was brutally assaulted by head constable Sandeep Parab alias Kamin and three constables, attached to the Porvorim Police Station, while the former had gone to Porvorim following a call by his client, who told him that he was dispossessed from his residential flat.

Police sources said that the DySP Rajesh Kumar will conduct inquiry and look into all the angles and find out the truth.

On the other hand, the State government has already ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident. The inquiry will be conducted by North Goa Collector Mamu Hage, IAS, who has been asked to submit the report within next six weeks.

Both the inquiries, one by the police and the second magisterial have been following complaint and counter complaint of assault.

While condemning the assault of the member of legal fraternity Adv Gajanan Sawant, the Goa High Court Bar Association had passed a resolution demanding a magisterial inquiry against the concerned policemen, and if prima facie found guilty of misuse of authority then to suspend them and also to relegate to a departmental inquiry.

They had also demanded to investigate the FIR and to bring erring cops to trial/justice expeditiously.
