The locals of Saleli Sattari are grappling with a prolonged water crisis as taps continue to run dry, worsening the water scarcity issue that has plagued the village for the past three decades. The enduring water scarcity problem has rendered Saleli without a dependable water supply, leaving villagers to contend with sporadic access to tap water, available only a few times a week.
The reliance on water tankers during the remaining days presents its own set of challenges, compelling residents to temporarily halt their daily routines and endure prolonged waits for water deliveries. At the heart of the matter is the ageing water pipeline, nearing four decades in operation, which frequently succumbs to breakdowns under the strain of high pressure. Despite numerous complaints lodged with officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Valpoi, the issue persists without resolution.
Rohidas Gaonkar, a Saleli resident, lamented the situation, stating, “There is no proper flow of water in the taps; on some days, we receive meagre water with no pressure, and on days when there is no water at all, we are forced to rely on the tanker.”
