MARGAO: A former sarpanch of Seraulim has filed a petition before the State Election Commission seeking disqualification of present sarpanch Leslie Dourado.
The State Election Commission has fixed preliminary inquiry into the petition filed by Jose Antonio Fernandes alias Joe Fernandes on December 6.
In his petition, Joe has claimed that the sarpanch has his name registered in the electoral rolls of both Fatorda and Benaulim assembly constituencies. He contended that the name of Sarpanch is registered as Lesli Dourado in Fatorda constituency and Leslie Dourado in Benaulim.
In his petition, Joe has prayed that the sarpanch be declared as disqualified as voter ab initio on the day of filing his nomination for the election of Ward No IV of Seraulim village panchayat held in 2012 and barred from contesting future election.
He further prayed that the election of the sarpanch as ward member of Ward No IV of Seraulim village be declared as null and void.
The Seraulim sarpanch, however, has firmly denied the allegations. He asserted that he has not committed any illegality. Dourado pointed out that he had moved the authorities for deletion of his name from the electoral roll of Fatorda constituency before the panchayat polls.
