Petitioners question CB’s ‘lack of evidence’ premise in Bismarque case

PANJIM: Refuting Crime Branch’s claim that till date they have found no evidence of murder in the death of social activist Bismarque Dias, and their appeal to the public to come forward with any available proof, Sudeep Dalvi, one of the three petitioners in the case before the High Court on Tuesday termed the Crime Branch move an act of one-man drama.
“Ample amount of material as well as circumstantial evidence has been submitted to the police by us to get certain individuals for custodial interrogation. Bismarque’s self-recorded statement refers to many persons, none of whom have been seriously grilled. His undergarment, which was found at the crime scene, is with the police. Till date they have not given any satisfactory clarification about it,” Dalvi said.
He added, “Crime Branch’s appeal to put the two boys who were last seen with Bismarque under lie detector test was rejected by the lower court, and they did not bother to appeal in the High Court. Above all, Crime Branch SP Karthik Kashyap’s interaction with media revealing contents of investigation, while the matter is sub judice, displays his department’s seriousness.”
He further said that this attitude makes it quite evident that Crime Branch was never interested in solving this case. “In fact it was we, the petitioners, who forced the Crime Branch to reopen the case which it closed terming it an accidental death,” Dalvi said.
Expressing full faith in the judiciary, Dalvi said the petitioners will wait for the final judgement after which, if required, all the legal remedies would be open to them.
