Petrol price high? Buy electric vehicle: Cabral

PANJIM: While fuel prices are burning a hole in consumers’ pockets with a daily increase, the unfazed State government is not expected to provide any relief. On the other hand, a minister advised people to switch to electric vehicles.

To a query by a journalist on the unending rise in fuel price, Minister Nilesh Cabral was quick to counter-question him asking, “Why are you worried?” On being told that it was in fact the consumers who are severely impacted, Cabral said people should switch to electric vehicles.

“On line with the government scheme for solar power, there is subsidy for purchasing electric vehicles. You will save environment and also money,” he said.

Mormugao Congress MLA Sankalp Amonkar slammed PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral for asking people to switch to electric vehicles in view of rising fuel prices.

Reacting to Cabral’s statement, Amonkar said, “It is absolutely wrong on the part of Cabral to make such statements. People are witnessing continuously hike in fuel prices and due to it prices of commodities have also increased thereby breaking the backbone of common man.”

The CLP Deputy Leader said that the Minister should know that heavy vehicles like trucks transporting commodities run on diesel while, those in fishing business are also impacted due to spiralling fuel prices.

“The prices of LPG cylinders are also increasing. Will the Minister tell people to use induction stove?” asked Amonkar.
