Petroleum tanker detained

Custom officials late Saturday evening detained a tanker carrying some petroleum products, worth Rs 9 lakh, outside the port at Vasco.
The tanker, which had valid permission to transport used furnace oil from the vessels, was caught on the wrong foot, as instead of transporting used furnace oil, it was carrying petroleum products.
Sources in custom office informed that after receiving a tip-off from sources, they detained a tanker that was transporting used lubricant oil and used diesel.
Though the concerned carrying and forwarding agent had permission to transport used furnace oil, but people who complained claimed that the tanker illegally siphoned off nearly 20 kiloliter pure diesel from the vessel.
“We have collected samples and sent it for analyses. After the report, we could throw light on the nature of substance,” said sources in custom.
