A fire erupted at the warehouse of ‘Puniska Injectable Pvt. Ltd.’, a pharmaceutical company located within the Honda Industrial Estate on Wednesday afternoon. The inferno, which started around 2 pm, caused extensive damage to the company’s facilities. Efforts to contain the fire spanned nearly 6 hours, with a combined force of 8 fire tenders from Valpai and Dicholi fire brigades tirelessly working to bring the situation under control.
The warehouse, stocked with medical materials including chemicals, became a battleground for firefighters. The intensity of the blaze necessitated the deployment of heavy machinery, including a JCB, and the use of eight fire bombs to combat the flames. The valiant efforts of a team of officers from Valpai Fire Brigade led by Station Fire Officer Santosh Gawas, alongside Dicholi fire brigade officers, including Shivaji Naik, Jawan Sandeep Parab, Amol Chorlekar, and Yogesh Mainkar, were pivotal in wresting control of the situation.
Ultimately, the fire was subdued using a combination of water and foam water, finally coming under control by 8.30 pm. However, the company incurred significant financial losses, estimated to be in the millions of rupees. The precise cause of the fire remains under investigation, with officers Srikant Gawkar, Tulshidas Zarmekar, Satish Naik, Rupesh Gawkar, and Sandeep Gawkar involved in the ongoing inquiry.
