Pharmacies down shutters for a day

PANJIM: The Chemists & Druggists Association Goa (CDAG) on Friday observed a one-day bandh in support of the call given by the All India Organisation of Chemists & Druggists (AIODC) to protest the Centre’s move to legalise online sale of medicines. All pharmacies were closed in Goa, the association claimed.
They said the online sale of medicines will not only kill standalone pharmacies but will also lead to haphazard sale of medicines. Online players operate without any responsibility under the Drugs and Pharmacist Act and supply medicines without verifying the authenticity of the prescription, CDAG further alleged.
They also alleged that online players violate the provisions of the drug act with no visible action taken by the authorities.
