Pharmacies to strike on Nov 23

PANJIM: Pharmacies in Goa will remain closed on November 23, following a strike call given by the All India Organisation of Chemists and Druggists (AIOCD) demanding action from the Centre against ‘illegal’ online sale of medicines.

AIOCD, having around eight lakh members is opposing the Central government’s move towards regularising sale of medicines through internet.
Chemists and Druggists Association of Goa (CDAG), affiliated to AIOCD, with around 800 members, has decided to support the bandh. “We have decided to support the bandh,” CDAG president Prasad Tamba said.
All retail and wholesale pharmacies will be closed for 24 hours, from midnight of November 22 to midnight of November 23.
AIOCD had on October 14, last year, held its first protest which was also supported by CDAG. However, the government paid no heed to their demand.
