Pharmacy students asked to swear by anti-ragging

The students of Goa College of Pharmacy have to give in writing that they would not indulge in ragging before they start attending classes.
Adhering to guidelines of University Grant Commission (UGC), the college in its recent meeting has decided to get affidavit from its students, which are to be submitted by next week.
“Those who are just attending classes will have to give one affidavit while those who stay at hostel will have to give two,” a member of anti-ragging committee said.
The college has already formed anti-ragging committee headed by Principal M G Pai and anti-ragging squad chaired by Dr V Yeliger.
The students and their parents will have to swear-in the affidavits, which has to be submitted to the college administration.
Although the college had implemented anti-ragging measures since last couple of years, the formal affidavit is being sworn in for the first time from this academic year.
The 400-student strong college offers degree, diploma and M Pharm courses.
The students and the parents have to swear in that they have carefully read the UGC regulations on curbing the menace of ragging in higher educational institutions.
“I have perused clause 7 and clause 9.1 of the regulation and I am fully aware of the penal and administrative action that is liable to be taken against me in case I am found guilty of or abetting ragging, actively or passively or being part of conspiracy to promote ragging,” the affidavits read.
