PHATA wants Panjim to be downgraded to municipal council

PANJIM: Panjim Hotel and Traders Association (PHATA) demanded that Panjim should be reverted back to a council and cease to be a corporation.
Speaking to the media, Panjim Hotel and Traders Association  president Barnabe Sapeco justified the demand of scrapping CCP because they don’t have the jurisdiction as envisaged in the original Corporation Act.
“CCP Act clearly shows that areas such as Penha de Franca, Socorro, part of Pilerne, Bambolim, St Cruz, Taleigao, Merces etc are to be included as part of the corporation,” the traders body said.
“Given this, Panjim should either revert to a municipality status or all areas, as defined in the original act, should be brought under CCP,” Panjim Hotel and Traders Association  demanded.
The association slammed the CCP for failing to provide proper service to the businessmen and the residents in the capital.
“Licensing policy should be simple and business friendly. We hoteliers and small businessman are taking due care of safety and hygiene so unnecessarily the authorities should not bring any hurdles in renewing the trade licences,” Sapeco said.
