PHC Cortalim congested and inadequate, locals demand expansion

A minimum of a hundred patients visit the facility everyday but the absence of adequate space is galling; Patients have to be referred to other facilities in case of an emergency after 5pm

The Quelossim- Cortalim villagers have raised concerns over the operation of Cortalim Primary Health Centre (PHC) from congested and inadequate premises. They said the infrastructure of Cortalim PHC is very small to cater to the growing medical needs of people from Cortalim and its neighbouring villages. The villagers have therefore demanded the state health department take steps and expand the PHC building and increase the beds facility here besides providing 24 hours medical service.
“At least 100 patients’ visits Cortalim PHC during OPD’s however they have to face inconvenience as the PHC infrastructure is very small to cater to the growing medial needs of Cortalim as well as other neighbouring villagers. At present PHC works only in the day time and anyone visiting this PHC after 5 pm or visit here during medical emergency are referred to other government hospital as the doctors are not available round the clock. We demand that the state health department should look into our problems and should upgrade the medical facilities here by taking up expansion of PHC building and by making provisions of beds,” a local doctor and resident from Cortalim said.
Quelossim Deputy Sarpanch Sebastiao Serrao said “The demand made by the villagers is genuine and after formation of the new Panchayat body even we had discussed the issue.
