MAPUSA: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC), Mapusa on Thursday further remanded Sudhir Pal Sangwan and Sukhwinder Singh to two days of police custody.
Sangwan and Singh, both from Haryana have been arrested by the Anjuna police in connection with the alleged murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat. On Thursday, the police produced them before the court to further remand.
Both the accused were arrested on August 26. A case has been registered against them under Section 302 of IPC and PSI Prashal Desai is conducting investigations. The accused along with Sonali Phogat had arrived in Goa on August 22 and were staying in a resort at Vagator. On the same day at around 9.30 pm, they took Sonali to Curlies restaurant at Anjuna on the pretext of partying and there one of the accused allegedly mixed some obnoxious substance in drinking water and forced Sonali to drink it.
Sonali was brought dead to the casualty of a private hospital at Anjuna on August 23 morning. Earlier the police had registered it as an unnatural death and following her family’s allegations that she was murdered, the police took the two accused into custody.
