Phogat case: State submits ‘confidential report’ to Haryana CM

CM says DySP level officer will handle the investigation and a five-member Goa Police team has left for Hissar; expresses confidence in nabbing the culprit

PANJIM: The State government has submitted a “confidential report” on the investigation into the case of alleged murder of BJP leader Sonali Phogat to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the Director General of Police (DGP) of that State. 

Speaking to mediapersons on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant also informed that the investigation will now be headed by an officer at the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). 

“We have sent the confidential report on investigation to the Haryana Chief Minister and DGP. The Goa Police team is doing investigation thoroughly and I am sure that we will find the culprit soon,” he said. 

“So far the investigation has been good.From now on a DySP level officer will handle the investigation. Earlier a PI was investigating the case,” Sawant added. 

The Chief Minister also said that a five-member team of Goa Police, led by a sub-inspector left for Hissar in Haryana on Tuesday for further investigation into the case. 

Sawant said all the accused have been arrested and further investigations are on. 

The Haryana government had recommended a CBI probe into murder case of Sonali Phogat.

Phogat, 42, was declared dead at the St Anthony Hospital, Anjuna in North Goa on August 23.  After initially concluding death due to natural cause, the Goa Police added murder Sections after her post-mortem report revealed blunt force injury on the body. Total five people are arrested in the case so far.
