PI Chodankar to be suspended for extorting Rs 7 lakhs from city spa

Crime Branch confirms the crime of ex Panjim PI; 5 constables of anti burglary squad had formed extortion gang; confess to PI giving them Rs 10,00 each from extortion amount of Rs 7 lakhs

PANJIM: Superintendent of Police Karthik Kashyap (IPS) of Crime Branch has sent a report to DIG Renganathan to disband the Anti-Burglary Squad following the involvement of PI Sandesh Chodankar in an extortion case in Panjim. 
According to sources at Police Headquarters, the suspension order of PI Chodankar is likely to be issued. 
Sources also informed that based on the complaint, Kashyap had initiated the inquiry and has found that PI Sandesh Chodankar has extorted seven lakh rupees from city-based saloon and spa. 
Sources informed that five constables who were in the gang of extortion have confessed of said act and also confessed that share of Rs 10,000 has been received to them from Chodankar, all the constables were attached to different police stations. 
PI Chodankar has already been transferred to GRP, Altinho with immediate effect on late Tuesday evening whose suspension is due. One police constable Shatun Shetye attached to anti-burglary squad has already been suspended who was not cooperating with the inquiry which was conducted by Karthik Kashyap. 
Sandesh Chodankar was recently reinstated in the service after his suspension due to the custodial death of Cipriano Fernandes at Panjim Police Station.     
When contacted, SP Crime Branch Karthik Kashyap confirmed the suspension of one police constable and the inquiry being conducted by him in the alleged extortion case, but refused to comment anything further.
