MAPUSA: Calangute Congress leaders on Friday alleged that Calangute Police Station Police Inspector and local MLA of being partners in rising crimes at the Calangute Constituency.
Addressing a press conference, former Calangute MLA Agnelo Fernandes said that the police are giving a clean sheat to themselves when it’s the people who caught the person with country made gun. Several complaints have been filed against the illegal activities taking place in the constituency but instead of taking action and curbing the crime, police are busy collecting “hafta”.
“Outsiders come as tourists and carry gun, which shows that there is no checking happening. Earlier, it was drugs and prostitution and now it is guns. Where Calangute is heading?” former MLA questioned.
Informing that there are 32 dance bar operating in Calangute Constituency, Fernandes alleged, “Activities of prostitution and drugs have been rampant in the Calangute Constituency. All this is happening with the blessings of Calangute Police Inspector and Calangute MLA is directly involved in this.”
Former sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said, “Prostitution business is openly operating in Calangute but even after giving complaints and proofs, no actions are initiated till date.”
