SANGUEM: Curchorem Police Inspector Sidhant Shirodkar has offered to set up a police outpost with five policemen in the remote village of Kalay, provided the local panchayat can provide suitable premises for the police outpost.

PI Shirodkar recently convened a joint meeting with Kalay panchayat members and villagers to promote relations between the police and public.

Considering the fact that the remote Kalay village is located several kilometres away from Curchorem Police Station, Shirodkar explored the possibilities of opening an outpost in the village if provided with suitable premises by the panchayat. Shirodkar assured to provide one head constable and four policemen in the village on regular duty. The opening of a police outpost in the village would help the villagers as they presently have to travel several kilometers to file their complaints or attend to any police matters.

Requesting villagers to inform police of suspicious movements of any person in the village, Shirodkar also advised people to provide details of those renting out premises in the village to the nearest police station.

“It is the duty of every citizen to inform police of any untoward activity in the village,” said Shirodkar, and he requested the youth not to sit in public places late at night.

The meeting was attended by Sarpanch Vaishali Naik, Deputy Sarpanch Balo Rekdo, Panchas Santosh Gaonkar, Kishor Dessai, Vilas Bicholkar, Vishant Kutkar, Nayan Shelke and others.

The villagers put forth several difficulties and problems faced by them in the village due to non-availability of policemen in times of emergency. Shirodkar assured the villagers to look into their grievances and get them solved at the earliest.
