PI Pilgaonkar’s police custody extended by another three days

PANJIM: The North Goa Sessions Court, on Friday extended the police custody of  former Tiracol Police Station PI Vidyesh Pilgaonkar, who has been arrested in connection with alleged bribery and extortion case by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) by another three days.

The ACB demanded extension of the police remand as it ended on Friday. Public Prosecutor Sushmita Mandrekar vociferously concluded her arguments opposing the bail application filed by PI Vidyesh Pilgaonkar, while defence lawyer Michael Nazareth submitted that he will argue on Monday, April 29. Pilgaonkar was arrested on April 20, 2024.

Earlier, two of his colleagues namely Head Constables Saanjay Talkar and Udairaj alias Raju Kalangutkar were also arrested in connection with the case. However, they were released on conditional bail Wednesday, April 24.

Pilgaonkar was arrested after his name reportedly appeared in the complaint filed by Pruthvi H N, an adventure sports operator from Arambol.   

According to sources, PI Pilgaonkar was transferred after a complaint was filed against him, suggesting a possible cover-up attempt. The Court emphasized the seriousness of the matter, stressing the need for a thorough investigation to safeguard the State’s image.

O Heraldo in its April 7 edition had reported on police coercion against Pruthvi H N’s legitimate paragliding business activities, shedding light on the alleged misconduct within the Tiracol Coastal Police Station.
