PANJIM: Tehelka founder-editor Tarun Tejpal, who is in judicial custody, faces a fresh bout of trouble with Panjim police registering a case of threat against him taking cognisance of a complaint filed by senior police inspector of Crime Branch Sunita Sawant.
Sawant, who is investigating sexual assault case against him, on Wednesday, lodged a complaint alleging that Tejpal threatened her during the course of investigation. Tejpal was interrogated for a continuous 10 days from November 31, 2013 till December 10, 2013 while he was in police custody.
“Tejpal had threatened her while undergoing interrogation. The IO had also brought this to the notice of North District and Sessions Court during his bail hearing and it was also mentioned in the order in which his bail was dismissed… the officer has now filed a complaint against him after following due process with the police department,” a Panjim police officer said.
A case under Section 506 of IPC has been registered which is a non-cognisable offence. It has also come to the fore that the victim, who has complained of sexual assault by Tejpal in November 2013, has filed a fresh complaint with police alleging that close associates of Tejpal are harassing her and the CCTV footage has been leaked to reveal her identity The State Home Department has been informed about the complaint letter.
