MARGAO: Maina Curtorim Police Inspector Pravinkumar Vast stoutly refuted allegations made against him by Willie and his wife Jenny Rodrigues from Nuvem that he has not taken any action following their complaint against a panchayat member for assaulting both of them.
The police inspector said the FIR was prepared soon after the complaint was lodged on July 2 and has not been filed only because the couple refused to sign it. “They are saying they will sign it only in the presence of their lawyer and I cannot do anything more in the matter,” he said.
While Willie alleged that he was harassed in the hospital where he was undergoing treatment in the night by the police inspector pressuring him to sign the FIR his wife alleged that police came to her house in the night for the same reason.
Pravinkumar pointed out that they cannot move further until the FIR is signed by the complainant and said that only female police personnel were sent to the house.
Meanwhile, the court has issued summons to the couple to appear before it on July 9, 2018 at 10.30 am to record their statement before the judge and Pravinkumar wondered what would happen if the couple refuse to accept the summons.
The couple’s complaint is that the panchayat member Coincao Colaco has been harassing them for long and on July 2 dumped mud in their property blocking access to them and their tenants. However, an inspection of the site revealed that the mud is dumped in continuation of the compound wall and not in the couple’s property.
Interestingly Samira Cardoso and Babita Raikar both members of the Goa State Women’s Commission accompanied Willie and Jenny while they were addressing the media persons and said that they were demanding action against the police officials for not acting in the matter concerning an assault on a woman.
