PANJIM: Goa Police Monday suspended Konkan Railway police inspector Vincy Paes for serious lapses into the investigation of suicide of a mother, who had killed herself and dragged her son along, by jumping in front of a train last month.
The suspension order was issued by DIG O P Mishra.
Sources said that Paes wrongly mentioned the years of marriage of deceased Sarika Pednekar and had also blundered while noting the age of minor son.
“Sarika was married to her husband for six years and she had a son aged five years old. But the officer mentioned in the FIR that the couple was married for eight years and son’s age as seven years, to avoid SDM inquiry,” said a source.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar last week had asked for a report from the Konkan Railway police station, on the investigation conducted into the suicide. According to the police, the disturbed mother had jumped in front a train and dragged her son Vignesh along with her about a kilometer and a half from Thivim railway station. Both were crushed to death on the Thivim-Sirsaim railway tracks. Sarika’s husband was in Pune when she took the extreme step with her son.
