When Paul Fernandes sought to know the status of the sports project, Sarpanch Rupesh Naik informed that the process of acquiring permissions from the government authorities concerned is going on and once permissions are received, construction will begin.
Fernandes brought to the notice of the panchayat that the Town and Country Planning department has put a remark in the file stating that the area where the sports complex has been proposed is an eco-sensitive zone. He sought to know why the panchayat started filling mud before receiving necessary permission under Section 17A of the TCP Act.
However, instead of replying to the question, some panchayat members reportedly started making allegations that a handful of villagers do not desire that the project should commence. The allegations led to heated arguments between the villagers and the panchas.
Naik said the State government has laid the foundation stone on Saligao plateau for the construction of a garbage treatment plant which is expected to be ready within a year and that once plant is commissioned, the garbage issue will be solved,” he said.
