Pilgao Vikas Manch (PVM) has accused a company from Fanaskungo-Pilgao of illegally cutting trees at Pilgao.
In its complaint to the Bicholim deputy collector, Mamlatdar, Forest Department and Bicholim police, the PVM has alleged that company has illegally cut the trees without taking prior permission of Forest Department.
According to the complaint, the company has purchased a huge land at Pilgao, popularly known as Fanaskungo, for dumping iron ore rejects.
“The concerned company is only interested in its benefit, but not bothered about the society. As such, the company has undertaken massive deforestation converting greenery into a red muddy mountain,” alleged Rohidas Jalmi of PVM.
“Bagwada, Mathwada, Sarmanas and Dhatwada which comes under Fanaskungo has 56 different types of trees having medicinal values and if the company destroys these invaluable trees, then the villagers will face a hardship,” added Jalmi.
Ramchandra Garde of PVM said time has come to initiate action against the company.
“Bicholim deputy collector should direct police to stop the work,” said Garde. Sushant Kavlekar stated that the natural water reservoirs in areas like Barajan Tale, Lingdawadcgi Zar, Talikdil Zar, etc, will be totally dried up if tree cutting is continued.
“This area also has 52 wells which may also dry up,” said Ajay Gaonkar and Shivaji Jalmi.
PVM has also brought to the notice that ore transportation is carried out even after 6 pm, thereby flouting rules. The PVM members have cautioned the administration to look into the matter and take stringent action against the offenders.
