PONDA: The water supply division of PWD undertook the work of repairing the broken pipeline at Keri on war-footing and released water at around 2 pm on Saturday.
However, as soon as water was released, the repaired pipeline again burst forcing the PWD to shut down the supply. Due to this, the Curti-Khandepar village and areas falling under Marcaim and Priol constituencies had to go without water for another day. Since the pipeline was broken on Friday, these areas were the most hit in Ponda taluka.
The pipeline was damaged on Friday by an earthmover while cutting the hill for road widening at Keri-Khandepar.
Meanwhile, the work of replacing the pipeline is apparently going slow and it is expected that the work would be completed on Sunday evening. Till then, the people in Curti-Khandepar, Marcaim and Priol will have to go without water.
Rocky Dias, a local, blamed the road contractor and the engineer supervising the hill cutting work for the damage to the pipeline. He said that since they were negligent in carrying out the work, the pipeline was damaged.
Other locals said that several pipelines pass through area and need proper care so that such incidents are not repeated.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that the National Highway work was progressing without providing proper service road forcing them use a rough road with high risk to their lives.
