CURCHOREM: A pipeline burst in Cacora, Curchorem after an earth excavator, was deployed by the PWD to clear small bushes. Instead of using a labourer with a grass-cutting machine, the department deployed an earth excavator, leading to bursting of the pipeline.
Locals flayed the PWD for using heavy machinery for a task, highlighting the unprofessionalism of the authorities.
The incident occurred near the Government Polytechnic, Cacora. Gallons of water spewed onto the road after the incident. Are the PWD supposed to clear bushes with an excavator? The machine operator’s excuse was that the water pipeline was on the surface.
When our reporter questioned the earth excavator operator why he had brought such a huge machine, he replied, “It is to clean the grass and the shrubs. This is not to clear the big trees.”
When pointed out that it was ridiculous to cut grass with an earth excavator, he just shrugged his shoulders and said, “I have been told to do this job.”
The work of cleaning the grass and the bushes should have been done by using labour with a grass cutter. But common sense does not seem to be so common with the PWD and its supervisors.
