PONDA: Heavy and incessant rains caused fresh landslide at Kerya in which a 250 mm dia pipeline supplying water to Usgao and Ponda areas burst. However, officials immediately rushed to restore the pipeline.
Since the hill at Kerya has been cut vertically for widening the national highway, the hill slid and the authorities took over a week to clear the debris from the landslide. In fact, the road was closed for traffic for at least four days to facilitate the removal of the landslide debris and also out of safety concerns.
After the first landslide, many minor landslides occurred along the two-kilometre stretch of highway at Kerya and in one such landslide last week, two pipelines were damaged.
