PONDA: In an early morning incident on Monday, a 200mm distribution water pipeline burst at the Khandepar junction after a heavy vehicle drove into it. Lakhs of litres of clean water flowed to waste, into the gutter. Locals informed the PWD, and the authorities stopped the flow of water after around half-an-hours’ time.
Road-users in the area witnessed a fountain of water at least 10 metres high, gushing out of the damaged pipe. Several school students were also seen frolicking in the stream of water that was flowing across the street. Local resident Sandeep Parkar said that the water pipeline broke after a vehicle crashed into the chamber. He said that the water chamber is located on the shoulder of the National Highway and people had for long been demanding that the pipe be shifted away from such a busy junction.
