PANJIM: Taps in St Inez and surrounding areas went dry since Thursday night due to breakdown of water supply pipeline at Altinho, here.
According to information available from PWD Executive Engineer Nivruti Parsekar, the water supply pipeline at Altinho broke due to grown roots of a tree underneath.
He said that tree roots had grown to such an extent that it blocked, ruptured and damaged the pipeline.
Parsekar said that the water will be released on Friday night with additional one-hour for the convenience of the consumers. The citizens have been expressing their apprehensions about the water supply pipeline being getting damaged due to ongoing digging work in most of the areas in the city. Currently, digging work is going on at many places at St Inez, where the first Smart Road is being constructed.
Those residing in government quarters at St Inez are the worst hit whenever the pipeline breaks down as there is no provision of storage water tank in the colony.
The residents have to completely depend on PWD water supply which is now released twice per day, once in the morning and later in the evening for two hours each.
