Pissurlem ‘illegal’ laterite quarry raided

SATTARI: Directorate of Mines and Geology officials, Valpoi Talathi and officials from the concerned departments conducted raid on an alleged illegal laterite quarry functioning at Pissurlem village, on Thursday. 

During the raid, the official seized four cutting machines, four generators, four power trailers, one earthmoving machinery and 1,700 laterite stones.

The Pissurlem village women claimed that they have complained to the Directorate of Mines and Geology and Valpoi Mamlatdar office, a long ago about the illegal activity. 

For the past several days, the village women have been raising their voice against the laterite stone mine and demanding with the concerned departments to take action on the illegal laterite stone mine which is running in full-fledged.

“Finally, the concerned departments’ officials have woken up and have taken the action on the illegal quarry,” say the village women.
