Pissurlem villagers give five days for mining companies to fulfill High Court directives

Pissurlem villagers have objected to transportation of ore from dumps without fulfilling High Court directives. They demanded that ore be removed from 128 acres of their fields. They also demanded that the mining company releases mines dump water to farmers and provide the compensation to the farmers for their losses. They also submitted a memorandum to the Valpoi Mamlatdar on the issue.

Pissurlem villagers said the honourable HighCourt had given many directives to the mining companies which had to be followed before restarting of mining. However, the Sesa Mining Company which is transporting the ore and Damodar Mangalji which is a leasee, have both not followed the directives of the High Court. They said that mining and dumps had causes tremendous losses to them. They have given the Mamlatdar five days’ notice to act following which they will go on a dharna and protest in a peaceful manner.

The area in contention lies on  the old cadastral plant on survey 41/1.The government through the deputy collector has asked the Mamlatdar to start the e-auction. “ We do not want to stop e-auction but they have destroyed out plantations and fencing, one woman told Herald TV.”

“There was no road here. They have destroyed our plantations and made a road. We are not blocking the e-auction. Let them take the ore. The mining lease was cancelled long back. The lease holders have no rights she stated. The original field owners have the rights to the property, on the old cadastral plan,” she said.

“Suddenly the transport operators of Sesa Resource Limited  who are doing the transportation of ore have destroyed the trees and made a road. Also filed complaint before the police,” she stated.

Villagers have demanded that they be given compensation and the water which is stored in the mining pits be released to them, failing which they will agitate.
