VALPOI: The Pissurlem villagers led by the women protested at the ADEI office, Valpoi, demanding appointment of an English teacher at the local Government Primary School.
A memorandum containing their demand was also to the ADEI office.
The villagers warned the ADEI officer that if their demand is not met by Tuesday, then they would take to the road along with their children.
Villagers say that there is no English teacher in the school since last one month, after the incumbent went on maternity leave. So, the PTA members had submitted a memorandum to the ADEI officer to appoint another teacher her place. But since the ADEI officer failed to take any action till date, the villagers were forced to lead a morcha to the ADEI office.
“There are around 50 children studying in the local government school. We have already written a letter to the ADEI officer requesting him to appoint a teacher, but till date he has not taken any action. The ADEI officer behaving rudely with us; he told us that he would not provide any English teacher to our School,” PTA President Shivanand Chari said.
“The government is urging us to send our children to the government primary school. So, we have admitted our children in the government primary school. But all the government primary schools in taluka are lacking the teachers,” PTA Vice President Vrushali Morajkar said.
“We don’t have permanent teachers in the Government Primary School. There are two teachers; but most of the time, both the teachers are under training; they visit the school only twice a week. Due to this our children are suffering. We complained to the ADEI office several times. But they have not taken any action. Now, we have given four days time to the ADEI officer, Valpoi to appoint an English teacher in our school. If he fails, then, we will come on road along with our children,” a village woman Hiteshri Parab said.
