MAPUSA: Porvorim residents led by Congress leader Adv Shankar Phadte have filed a complaint against some migrant workers for hurting sentiments of the Hindus for taking out Ganesh Visarjan procession on the third day of Chaturthi, at Porvorim.
The complaint states that the workers of a company were found dancing on the road in public with beer bottles during the procession in a group of over 100 people.
Adv Phadte said, “Not only religious sentiments were hurt but Goans and Goan culture have been insulted and undermined by such incidents which has brought disrepute to the entire State.”
If given an opportunity from Porvorim I will table the POGO Bill and define a person of Goan Origin as one who establishes at least three generations in Goa preceding him who was born in Goa. Goan culture is a distinct homogeneous culture and Goans are a cultural minority in India and their identity has to be protected,” Phadte said.
“Goan identity needs to be defined by a legislation defining a Person of Goan Origin. But a person simply born in 1961 cannot be of Goan Origin,” Phadte added.
