PANJIM, MARCH 9
A complaint has been filed with the Panjim police against the State Election Commissioner (SEC) of cheating and corruption and acting in violation of law.
It may be recalled in its edition dated March 8 Herald had exposed the illegality of the notification for CCP elections.
The complaint filed by Ulhas Naik Desai of Miramar and Mahesh Kamat of Margao has drawn attention to the news article published in Herald.
“The CCP election notification was shown as duly signed by Dr M Modassir on February 14 from Panjim, when actually he was on sanctioned leave from Governor of Goa from February 7 to 18”, the complaint states. It further adds “from his leave application it reveals that he was in Aligarh, which can also be proved by tracing his mobile phone location on that day”.
Therefore, the complainants say, “it is necessary the police must carry out investigation in this illegal action of forgery, cheating and corruption in connivance with the ministers and politicians who are getting their illegal work done with the help of bureaucrats, who acted for illegal gratification received (directly or indirectly)”.
According to the complaint, “the officer has acted in blatant, brazen and utter disregard and violation of law and its specific mandate. In the process he has abused the very position and powers given to him to protect and enforce the letter and spirit of the law…”. The complainants have asked the police inspector to file an FIR in the matter failing which they would be forced to approach the court.
However, even 24 hours after the complaint was lodged, no FIR had been registered in this regard. Officials at Panjim police station said they are looking into the matter.
