Plans on to reschedule civic polls

PANJIM: The State Election Commission is considering rescheduling the municipality elections in the case of 11 municipalities, slated on November 1, as the date coincides with All Saints Day, a holy day for the Catholic community.

The decision has been taken following a plea from social activist Aires Rodrigues who urged the Election Commission to reschedule the elections.
Election Commissioner Dr M Modassir said that the commission is considering either postponing or advancing the elections. “I will be having a meeting with church authorities before taking any decision. If the day – November 1 – is holy and important, then we have no issue to reschedule the election. The purpose is not to cause any inconvenience to the people but to hold elections peacefully,” Modassir said.
