Plasma therapy showing positive results: Health Minister

Says of two COVID patients administered plasma, one is improving; Says there is no shortage of any medicines

PANJIM: Urging those who have recovered from COVID-19 to donate their plasma, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Monday said that the plasma therapy treatment administered to two patients on Sunday has started showing positive results.

On Sunday, two patients were administered plasma therapy out of which one is improving in oxygen saturation levels while the other patient’s condition has remained the same. “The other patient will be administered another dose,” Rane said.

He further appealed to people cured of COVID to come forward and become saviours. “It is my humble appeal to those cured to kindly come forward and save lives by donating plasma. Plasma is a life saver,” he said.

While over 4000 persons have been cured of COVID-19, only 20-odd people have so far donated plasma, which could be a game-changer for Goa.

The Health Minister hit out at detractors saying there is no shortage of any medicines. “Whatever facilities in COVID-19 hospitals need to ramped up will be done on a war-footing,” he stated.

About pending COVID tests, he said, with the sudden spike in cases, the backlog naturally spirals. “Now the backlog is 1600 odd. I guess in the next two days it should be done,” the Health Minister said.

He said that the State is looking at installing a few more TrueNAT machines at various locations to ease the pressure.

Speaking on the health of Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias, Rane said that the MLA is doing well and that plasma therapy has not been given to him.
