Plea to protect heritage site in Bicholim

BICHOLIM: The Goa Heritage Action group on Thursday submitted a letter to the State Conservation Committee, urging authorities to protect the heritage site of the Bicholim police station.

It may be recalled that Herald had earlier highlighted moves by local MLA Naresh Sawal and the State government to shift the existing police station and build a government complex at the site.
GHA group Chairperson Prajal Sakhardande had earlier objected to the move and in a letter to the collector had urged authorities to look into the matter. “The Bicholim police station is steeped in history right from the time of Shivaji, Sambhaji and Bhosles of Sawantawadi. It has a temple dedicated to lord Koteshwar. Though the fort is in ruins, some parts of the walls, moat (Khandak) can still be seen at the police station,” said Sakhardande.
