Pledge not to fall prey to attempts aimed at disturbing age-old amity in Goa: CM

PANJIM: In fervent plea to Goans to take a pledge not to fall prey to any attempts aimed at disturbing age-old amity in the State, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday alleged that some fringe elements were trying to disturb peace and harmony in the State. 

Addressing the people after hoisting the national flag at the State-level Independence Day celebrations at Old Secretariat, Panjim, Sawant said that these elements are using incidents from other States to create disharmony and appealed to the people to maintain their unity and  age-old amity existing in the State. The government is focusing to provide minimum government and maximum governance to the people through the administration system.

Sawant underscored the need for the State to become self-reliant and set an example for other States to emulate and added that his government has implemented ‘Swayampurna Goa’ programme, working on the “Antyodaya Tatva” ensuring that the welfare schemes reach to the last person of the society.

Extending his greetings to the people of Goa and remembering the sacrifices of the freedom fighters, he said measures are being devised to achieve the goal of a developed India by 2047. “Through various government initiatives, policies and programmes, we can empower our State as well as our country,” he added.

The Chief Minister informed that for the first time the government has relaxed the necessary recruitment rules to absorb 62 Home Guards into the regular Goa Police service and to give jobs to children of Freedom Fighters before this year’s Liberation Day. Government would soon launch the “Har Ghar Fibre” scheme providing internet access to every household. He reiterated the government’s commitment to empower women. “Let us work together to achieve our dream to make India developed by 2047,” he said. 

In order to solve the unemployment and skill development of youth being the main target in the State, Sawant said that the government will soon sign memorandum of understanding (MoU) with 47 companies for skill upgradation. The government will also make the state a technology hub by transforming five government industrial training institutes (ITIs). 

Chief Minister awarded President’s medal to Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh, police constable Sudhir Talekar, fire services sub-officer Prashant Dhargalkar and Home Guards Carolina Fernandes and Narayan Pagi for their meritorious service. 

Swayampurna Mitras Diksha Namdev Tari, Pradip Sawant, Dattaprasad Palini, Harishchandra Gawade and Sudesh Nanda Gaude were also felicitated for being the best performing Swayampurna Mitras under ‘Swayampurna Goa 2.0’ programme. 

Gopal Damodar Caculo was also felicitated by the Chief Minister for his guidance to the Indian Army during operation to liberate Goa.
